Red is the of Heat, Passion, Excitement, Sensuality, Love, Danger, Courage, Anger, Romance and in some cultures red is auspicious—associated with life-generating energy (the sun, blood, and fire)—and is the color of celebrations and prosperity.
Here we have Pomeranian supermodel little Daffodil modeling a fabulous vintage Dior Inspired ball gown of red scallop sprinkled in tiny silver sequins and crystals featuring ruffled voile sleeves for that touch of romance.
This versatile gown is perfect for Christmas events, Valentines Day and just about any formal occasion. In this gown she’ll not only make a jaw dropping entrance but also be the bell of the ball.

Smoke and Mirrors?
I love working with reflective materials. While there are those that are easy to manipulate and sew there are others that take great effort, persistence, strength and imagination.
Lil Daffodil, the fabulous Pomeranian who has graced my runways since she was a puppy is seen here modeling a copper colored armor like dress. Encrusted in copper colored palettes forming daisies reflects the colors she comes in contact with and when the lights hit that dress directly she looks like a disco ball. The garment was hand constructed and sewn because upon first attempt sewing machine needles kept slipping and snapping. All this work and the challenge made it all the more one of my favorite creations. I accepted the challenge and love the results.

Monet or Manet
Oscar-Claude Monet was a French painter and founder of impressionist painting. Édouard Manet was a French modernist painter. Both magnificently talented and geniuses in their own right.
For this canine couture creation, modeled here by Miley Jo, I was moved by the fabric because of the close resemblance to impressionist painting By Claude Monet titled Water Lilies. I have always been mesmerized by this massive work of art.
I did not want to over do the design and instead chose to go simplistic. I wanted the fabulous print to carry the design. The only enhancement I chose was the flamingo pink feathers adorning the sleeves.
While some think that more is more is their preference in fashion I do believe that everything has its time. In this case less was best.

Bright and Cheery
There is something I love about yellow. It’s a color of power, of brightness, of and Joy.
When I first saw this fabric, I knew exactly which client it was going to. It was Penny’s debut on the New York Fashion Week runway and I knew that she had to come out bright and cheery like her personality.
This dress is encrusted in glass beads and features wonderful stylized flowers in exuberant colors. It looks almost like stained glass. I chose a deep purple feather trim for the sleeves and when Penny came out, she dazzled the crowd. It was a perfect match.

Pennies From Heaven
That is exactly what I thought when I saw these fabulously opulent fabrics which I combined to create this canine couture creation featured in my 2020 New York Fashion Week presentation at the iconic Pier 59 Studio B. I wanted the ball gown to depict a puddle of coins as if dropped from heaven and for such an adorable little lady named Miley Jo. Of course we had to whisk it off the runway to the studio to capture it in all it’s glory.

The stuff dreams are made of is how I would describe my creations because anyone can design clothes but not everyone knows how to create couture.
How grand does our sweet #Pomeranian model LaLa look in this Canine Couture creation by Anthony Rubio? It is not about cranking out cookie cutout dresses in varieties or combinations of fabrics and trims. For me, it is about constantly evolving and reinventing my techniques and aesthetic because without growth there is no future.
This tailored gown is an architectural work of art featuring hand beading in glass and miniature pearls over floral embroidered burgundy netting delicately draped over a pink ruched satin. The result is a show stopping testament to the art of Couture.

From the Spring Summer 2020 collection, I presented for LA Fashion Week here is a little something extra special.
First off, at first glance this looks like a printed fabric but it is actually my endeavor at designing the woven fabric. If the pattern looks familiar, it was inspired by camouflage. I decided to stay monochromatic and design it in vibrant shades of imperial purple.
Once I finished the voluminous skirt I lined it in yet more purple in a floral burn out velvet. The bodice and skirt both feature silk flowers and sequined flowers I personally hand crafted.

In the spirit of keeping things real during my design presentations, I include canine models with a story. A story of survival and a will to live.
A story of the wonderful human beings who take them in when others won’t. For #LAFW, I included a handicapped dog on wheels with a story to melt your heart.
Daisy Underbite was born with dislocated joints in her shoulders, elbows, and back hips which resulted in her deformity. She was scheduled to be euthanized but was rescued and adopted when she was around 10 months.

For my designs I get inspiration from personal encounters, be it movies, trips to museums, human fashions and even from my dreams. There is that occasion, though, that comes along from time to time when I am hunting for textiles where something special will catch my eye. I like and welcome a good challenge where others might turn away. I have seen fabrics valued at hundreds per yard and cringe at the idea of taking scissors to it fearing that I might ruin it or that it might fall apart. While many would rather not take the risk, I welcome that challenge, after all I am a thee couturier and I create a luxury product utilizing the best and most expensive of materials. I live by the rule that couture is unique, made to order and mostly hand crafted not cookie cut out. What drew me to designing couture in the first place was the challenge to create something special for that one client. To have something pre-made and mass produced before the client even sees it does not fall under the category of couture no matter how many times the designer calls it couture.
Here is a ball gown I created specially for this little lady. I saw this embroidered and fabric with opalescent palettes and immediately new what I wanted to create and for whom. The result is this little custom confection of a garment so delicious with its cotton candy colors. Look at LaLa in her couture gown, good enough to eat.

I am always feeding my insatiable appetite for fashion by doing extensive research. I keep my finger on the fashion industry pulse and I listen to what the newest buzz is all about. Months before my presentations I study and experiment until that light bulb moment occurs. This Fashion Season saw lots of floral and palm leaf prints shown in various motifs. I decided to incorporate my vision of these themes utilizing new combinations of textiles and accents ranging from sequins, palettes to plumes.
Here we have Liv the Morkie in red. This romantic monochromatic gown features embroidered foliage layered over satin roses sprinkled with huge crimson palettes.
No one can forget the vision that is a Lady In red.

The theme for the 2014 New York Pet Fashion Show was “The Crown Jewels”. Pet Fashion designer Anthony Rubio chose to base his winning creation on nature. The crown in coral silk taffeta features hundreds of crystals topped with a jeweled cross. Individual small and larger set crystals were strategically hand sewn as was the faux white fur trim also speckled with individual crystals. The necklace features various sizes of leaded crystals on foliage shaped panels to enhance the silk and chiffon flowers of the dress. Like all Royalty the princess wore a white faux fur cape which features a band of intertwined rows of crystals with Austrian leaded crystal clasps and white gross grain ribbon ties.

Ladies and Gentlemen I present a couture creation titled Golden Paisley by Anthony Rubio for Bandit Rubio Designs.
While its always a pleasure to make that fashionable jaw dropping entrance at that occasional event, its also so pleasurable to just stay home and luxuriate in a couture creation to remind one of the finer things in life. The pattern of this regal dress is Paisley a design with origins in ancient Persia and India which had a resurgence in the 1960’s and most recently worn in the Olympics by the team from Azerbaijan 2010. Still it is popular in Iran and Uzbekistan in fashion, paintings, jewelry and many forms of interior design.
